The afterlife isn’t entirely what people think it to be. Spirits don’t go there for an enternal happiness. On the contratry, they go to learn from their previous life experiences, to reflect in on themselves and learn from their mistakes. Some spirits spend a multitude of lifetimes searching for the definition of their heart and soul. They search endlessly for a balance or a sense of peace. Some of them find the answers they seek. And some of them do not.
Luhan has made this trip 5,427 times.
He has seen the farthest reaches of the universe, past blazing suns, stormy planets, and galaxies that twinkle and swirl like the emotions that stir within himself. A physical body is but a vessel for the mortal part of his journey, a fleeting breath in time, a candle flame that shines brightly in the darkness before it’s snuffed out. And so Luhan wonders, why is he here? To what benefit does his soul provide to this great and powerful universe? He feels as though he’s searching for something, although, he knows not what it is.
Luhan finds his answer during his 5,428th lifetime.
Sehun is a young soul, his journeys numbering only 1,279, and he has so many flaws, yet Luhan finds them incomprehensibly beautiful. Such a young soul is naive and fragile. Luhan finds purpose in guiding Sehun, and it’s only natural that they meet each other again and again throughout the following lifetimes. No matter where they end up, they always find each other. Sehun thinks it’s funny. Luhan’s soul merely sparkles with mirth. Perhaps they’d been meant to find each other all along. Maybe it was just chance. Maybe it wasn’t.
Luhan stops searching after that. The Higher Beings tell him that he’s ready, that he’s learned what he needed to learn, and that it’s time for him to venture to The Place of Pure Souls. To make that journey means to leave Sehun behind. Luhan doesn’t know if he can do it, but Sehun tells him to go, that they’ll meet again when the time is right.
For the first time in his celestial form, Luhan feels sadness. He says that he’ll stay for Sehun, but the younger convinces him to go. And so on the day when Sehun is destined to start a new journey of discovery for himself, he sees Luhan off and watches as he’s swallowed up by a bright light unlike anything he’s ever witnessed.
And then Luhan is gone.
Sehun uses what the elder spirit taught him throughout his other lifetimes. He learns quickly and molds himself into a being worthy of praise by the Higher Beings. Upon the expiration of his 3,916th lifetime, Sehun ventures to The Place of Pure Souls, and Luhan is there to greet him with open arms.
The light seems to encompass everything. It’s warm and feathery light, and Sehun feels so much love and compassion in Luhan’s arms that he’s nearly overcome by his own emotions. Luhan’s soul glitters with unspoken affection. Sehun now understands what it means to be a pure soul. To be pure is to be apart of the greater whole.
As Sehun melds with Luhan’s soul, he realizes that they were never separate to begin with, that they were meant to be together like this since the very beginning. Time becomes invalid as they become a part of light and love and of the universe.
This is their answer.
This is who they are.
One in the same.
